Hello October!

We’re in mid-October now, so this is actually a late-ish post. I meant to post this in the beginning of the month, but once again, work got really busy. But, I’d like to just write this little drabble about October altogether.

October is…

  • 🎂 Birthday Month: I became a Golden Girl on the 14th.
  • 🍂 Fall Season PMS: Sometimes it’s your typical cool breeze autumn 🌬️, sometimes the sun is hotter 🥵 than the summer sun ☀️. Gotta love the unpredictable Bay Area weather.
  • 🇵🇭 Filipino American History Month: We were the first Asians to land before United States of America came to existence. Honestly, I haven’t really taken the time to really honor our forefathers who set foot on this New World’s soil via the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade. I haven’t read many books by Filipino(-American) authors either. I think it’s time to sit down, relax, and read a compelling story about the Manongs and those who came before my family and I did. Forgotten Island was a start when my mom and I saw the movie on the first week of October.
  • 🖋️ Inktober, Drawtober, Artober, etc.: I’m starting to focus more in getting back into hand-drawn art, doing practice drills so I can develop muscle memory. I became worried about AI scraping digital artwork and then having them generated for someone else’s slop.
  • 🍅 Persimmons!!: Our persimmon tree at the backyard has fruit, ready to be harvested, eaten, and given away to friends and loved ones.
  • 🎃 Halloween: Not my favorite occasion because candies (and diabetes) galore, but I love seeing everyone in costumes. I don’t wear costumes myself, but still a fun night. There haven’t been any kids stopping by our house for trick or treating, but then again, maybe times have changed.

As of this writing, we are now on the second to the last week of October. I wish this month lasted longer, but for now, I’m going to live it as my first month of being a ✨Golden Girl✨.

Be vigilant, fellow bloggers!

AI spam comments began to invade my blog as of late, and worst of all, in the beginning of October too. The fear that I had regarding the misuse of AI have come true. Have you ever received comments from suspecting “people” related to your blog posts, but when you hover onto their website links, it leads you to some AI site? Yeah, that just happened to me recently. And it has become a major concern for me.

I know that I don’t get readers, let alone comments, but I think this is time where I have to probably remove the comments form altogether. But for now, I have to change my Discussion settings on the backend.

It’s nice to see some comments responding to some of my old posts, however, I prefer an actual human responding to them than spammy AI.

I was going to do a movie review of Forgotten Island…

… but instead, I would just write about how I felt as a Filipino-American, not as some movie critic.

First of all, I don’t care about the whole box office sales and all that. A lot of award-winning films were sleeper hits and are not even Box Office hits. It all goes down to content quality and mass appeal. And who knows, Forgotten Island may even be nominated for next year’s Oscars. We’ll see.

But there were a lot of elements within that movie that somehow hit home for me, growing up as an immigrant child and becoming a naturalized citizen at age 15 when my parents were sworn in as U.S. citizens. Seeing all the mythological creatures that I’ve come to known as a child was a pure, nostalgic delight. My parents and elders would use the excuse of “If you don’t behave, the manananggal will come and get you!” for us to behave and follow what they want us to do, such as coming home early for dinner while we were still playing outside with the neighborhood kids during the early evening.

I won’t be going into detail, as I meant for this to be a short blog entry. With all the AI spam invading my blog since early October, I didn’t feel like writing about this anymore.

Until next time…

Maybe I’ll write another blog entry sometime in November. Well, life is unpredictable, and personal moods are unpredictable as well.

Again, until next time.
